Republican voters in North Carolina today nominated conservative Jim O’Neill to be their next attorney general. Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) Chairman and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry released the following statement, congratulating Jim O’Neill on tonight’s Republican primary election victory.
“Congratulations to District Attorney Jim O’Neill. O’Neill is a proven prosecutor who will refocus the North Carolina Attorney General’s office on public safety and the principles of limited government and adherence to the rule of law. I am excited for him to join the ranks of the nation’s 26 Republican attorneys general.”
RAGA Executive Director Adam Piper previewed the upcoming election: “RAGA sees North Carolina as one of our top targets in 2020. Donald Trump carried the state in 2016. Democrat Josh Stein’s career record of support for extreme liberal positions such as sanctuary cities is out of touch with voters from the mountains in the west to coastal communities in the east. The Old North State is long overdue for a Republican attorney general, who will make communities across North Carolina the safest places to live, work, and raise a family. North Carolina deserves an attorney general who will focus on the court of law instead of the court of public opinion.”
