In the Letter, the Attorneys General Ask the Senate to Immediately Confirm Judge Barrett

In a letter sent to the Senate, 22 Republican attorneys general (AGs) call on Congress to immediately hold a hearing and vote to confirm Judge Barrett. In the letter, the AGs write that the Senate will need little time to conclude that Judge Barrett will make an excellent Associate Justice due to her “unwavering commitment to a judicial philosophy that prioritizes restraint, humility, and respect for the rule of law.”

A copy of the letter can be found here.

The Republican AGs also call out the Democrats for their blatant hypocrisy by quoting a 2016 letter sent to the Senate by the Democrat AGs of California, New York, and 17 other states. In the letter, the Democrats wrote, “The President has a duty to make a nomination” and the Senate “has the responsibility to consider and approve or disapprove the nomination.” The only thing that has changed over the last four years, is that President Trump is now in charge.

RAGA Chairman Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said, “Today, I join my fellow AG colleagues in calling on the Senate to fulfill its duty to the American people to immediately vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett. A Metairie native and St. Mary’s Dominican High School alumna, Judge Barrett embodies our State’s values and respect for the rule of law. Judge Barrett is a distinguished legal scholar and an exceptional appellate judge with a track record of interpreting the Constitution according to its text and original public meaning. A clerk for the late great Justice Antonin Scalia – Judge Barrett shares his passion, knowledge, and respect for the Constitution, and also honorably holds religious liberty as a sacred right. We applaud the President for ignoring leftist hypocrisy and fulfilling his Constitutional responsibility without delay. Today, we urge the U.S. Senate to also immediately fulfill its Constitutional duty and quickly confirm Judge Barrett.”

The attorneys general from the following states signed onto the letter: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia.

Over the weekend, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) released a video, “Fill the Seat.” The video features clips of Republican AGs explaining how Amy Coney Barrett’s dedication to her faith and family and exemplary record as a strong Constitutionalist jurist will make her an outstanding addition to the Court. In the video, the AGs also urge the Senate to immediately fulfill its Constitutional obligation to confirm Judge Barrett. Watch the video here, or in the embedded link below.
