Acting Attorney General Cori Mills started with the Alaska Department of Law in 2012, serving as an assistant attorney general for the Legislation and Regulations Section. For seven and a half years, Cori honed her skills in legislation, government finance, and media relations. She also took on special projects for three former attorneys general, such as staffing the Alaska Human Trafficking Task Force and conducting the public meetings for a high profile proposed settlement involving a land exchange. Cori then transitioned to mainly representing the Division of Elections and the Lt. Governor’s office for one year, before becoming the supervisor of the Labor & State Affairs Section in August 2020. Former Attorney General Treg Taylor asked if she would be willing to become the Deputy Attorney General in 2021 overseeing the Civil Division when he ascended to the Attorney General position. Cori said yes and served in that role until being appointed Acting Attorney General in May 2026. Cori began her legal career in Sacramento, California where she practiced land use and environmental law for four years with the law firm of Abbott & Kindermann LLP. She graduated in the top ten percent of her class from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science. She and her husband Andy have two children and live in Juneau, Alaska.
