WASHINGTONA new poll released yesterday by the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) reveals a dramatic shift in the race for Virginia’s top prosecutor with incumbent Republican Jason Miyares now leading Democratic challenger Jay Jones by 2 points just weeks before Election Day.

This surge follows the breaking news from Friday, October 3, of Virginia Democrat attorney general candidate Jay Jones’ text messages suggesting a Republican Speaker should get “two bullets to the head” and that he was raising “little fascists.”

Following this story, Jones’ favorability tanked. In early September, he had 44% hard name ID at a +4 net favorability. Currently, he sits at 71% hard name ID and -17 net favorability. To put it simply, this is a -21 swing in favorability.

While this poll was conducted, the news stories had yet to saturate the market, and many Virginians had not yet heard about the texts.

“Virginia’s voters deserve a leader who protects families and will uphold and defend the rule of law. Jay Jones has proven repeatedly that he is unfit to serve as Attorney General,” said Adam Piper, RAGA Executive Director. “This poll is a clear signal from the Commonwealth that voters reject Jay Jones – both his reprehensible rhetoric and his reckless ways. As Attorney General, Jason Miyares has fought to protect families, stop the flow of fentanyl, defend parental rights in schools, and keep violent criminals off our streets. I am confident that voters will reject Jay Jones at the ballot box on November 4.”

This Cygnal survey was conducted October 6 – 7, 2025, with 600 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of ±3.98%. Known registered voters were interviewed via live phones and text-to-web. This survey was weighted to a likely 2025 general election voter universe. The polling results can be found here.
