WASHINGTON – The Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) previously called for Democrat Jay Jones to drop out of the race for Virginia Attorney General following his disqualifying text messages. Today, it added a separate call for Jay Jones to drop out after news of a special prosecutor being named to investigate Jay Jones for criminal misconduct.
On October 22, 2025, a Commonwealth’s Attorney made public the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate allegations that Jay Jones misrepresented the completion of his court-ordered community service hours. Jones was charged with driving 116 mph on I-64 and received service hours and a fine rather than jail time, even though numerous individuals who were arrested for reckless driving – including in the same county, on the same day, and going even slower than 116 mph – faced harsher sentences and jail time.
Jones submitted documentation claiming that he served 500 hours at the NAACP, a client he represented at his law firm, and an additional 500 hours at “Meet Our Moment,” an organization he failed to disclose as his own political action committee (PAC). Under Virginia law, his assigned community service must be completed as unpaid contributions to nonpolitical, charitable, or nonprofit entities.
“Jay Jones has proven himself time and again to be unfit and unqualified to serve as Virginia’s top prosecutor,” said RAGA Executive Director Adam Piper. “While 51% of Virginians have said Jay Jones should drop out, Democrats continue to put partisan identifiers above principle by allowing Jay Jones to remain on the ballot. He is a threat to the safety of all Virginians. Jay Jones has shown he lacks the character, integrity, and judicial temperament to be Attorney General. From murderous text messages to reckless driving at 116 mph to defrauding a court of law, Jay Jones belongs behind bars, if convicted of fraud, not as a member of the state bar – let alone as Virginia’s Attorney General.”
