WASHINGTON- The campaign of convicted criminal Jay Jones has been in freefall since revelations of his murderous text messages became public last month. In addition to his criminal conviction for driving 116 mph on a 70 mph stretch of highway, Jones is also facing a criminal investigation for lying to the court to avoid jail time.

Virginians are today asking: Can Jay Jones even pass a background check, and will Secret Service allow Jones to appear alongside former President Barack Obama at his rally in Norfolk?

By any standard, Jay Jones would be hard pressed to pass a basic background test to be hired as an attorney in the AG’s office, much less the top prosecutor. A lawyer under investigation for fraud who faces active bar complaints, plus a history of violent threats and convicted of reckless endangerment is not only unfit to serve as Attorney General but may not even be legally allowed to take office. Jones does not have the judicial temperament—much less the legal integrity—to serve as Virginia’s Attorney General.

“Jay Jones’ ongoing criminal investigation and his murderous gun violence fantasies about his political opponent and their children should (ironically) prevent him from owning a firearm, appearing alongside a former President, and ultimately, holding office,” said Adam Piper, Executive Director of the Republican Attorneys General Association. “Jay Jones is toxic for the Democrat brand, not only in Virginia, but nationally. Since revelations of Jones’ gruesome text messages, Democrats have literally been running away from accountability for allowing Jones to remain on the ballot. Democrat candidates for public office in Virginia and throughout the country are tied to Jones and will suffer the consequences of their association with Jones.”
